A group of people arrive back in what looks like the late 80's or maybe the 90's on the day of a historic event where a bomb was detonated killing allot of innocent people
But they aren't there to stop the bomb from going off
The event looks like it might be some type of race. The streets are all blocked off and a grand stand has been built right next to one of the main roads
It is filled with people
This is where the bomb is detonated. It is a fairly big bomb filled with nails and all sorts of shrapnel, that is left on the road in front of the grand stand and it's crowd by a pregnant woman
I see a whole sequence of time-loops, where the people that are travelling back in time are hit by debris from the bomb, then rewind somehow, adjust their position slightly around the grand stand area and keep doing so until they find a place to be where they aren't hit. They need to be present when it takes place, but not be hit
Then there is a sequence where they all take turns in walking past the pregnant woman who is leaving the scene and making quick and precise passing attacks on her to push and bustle her into a particular position where, though she appears to be safe, she has a massive portion of her upper body ripped off by the explosion. Something she hadn't planned on
One of the men pushing past her says to her "ain't time travel a bitch?"
Another one grabs her breast as he pushes her walking past for some reason. But not like he's groping her, more like he's pinching a pressure point
Then after they let the explosion take place, they all hurry off to do the job they are there for
The job is to erase all evidence that they were ever there
But this seems like some type of alternate reality version of themselves they are erasing evidence of
They are people selected from the future, to travel back in time to erase evidence of another version of themselves having existed, living at the time of certain historic event, surrounding the event
It is something do with time loops and closing out the influence they have upon the Earth
But they are not the ones who lived in the time, even though those people are them. They just clean up for those versions of themselves by travelling back to erase the clues they left behind, that they know were left behind by the fact they are from the future
But, most importantly. They are not in any way involved in the bombing or other. historic events. They are attached to. They merely stop it from influencing or precipitating a sequence of other world changing events (in effect). They exist around it, making sure that "conspiracies" are made powerless
I didn't see enough of the movie and details of the story to know for sure, but if I had to guess ...
They don't know who the other versions of themselves are, where they are from, why exactly they are there, or even that they do ...
They don't know how a person from the future appeared and existed in the past, temporarily (sometimes for weeks, even taking jobs), and then disappear
But they know that if they don't examine the clues to identify these people, employ them and send them back to clean up after themselves, that very bad things happen as a result
The future versions of these people usually end up being killed after they are drawn into some destructive type of sequence of events, usually political in nature. That is also deadly and destructive to some of the most influential people and changes for good taking place on the planet. They refer to the as "corruptions"
They also know the future versions of the people have no knowledge of the alternate versions of themselves. And that they do not at some stage in the future, go back and carry out the other instance of themselves in the past, because early versions of the "program" killed one of them to test
They need to identify them in the present. Hi send them back to the past. To clean up after a unknown anomaly version of themselves that existed (only temporarily) around a major catastrophic event in the past, to save events of the future involving them
Events totally unrelated, except for a existential nexus involving that person
They refer to them as "Venus Nexus" because the theory is that Venus and Earth exist together in a shared reality. Like two eyes making a single perceived image
But, though the worlds almost completely identical in every way, they are also distinctly different and individual
Most people in both worlds are identical and live identical lives. But some are what they refer to as "Nexus". Those who are able to exist simultaneously in both realities as a slighty (or in some cases majorly) different versions of themselves
The theory is that both timelines are perceived to move in the same direction because they do, but that they also exist in some type of binary which means the forward perceived simultaneous flow of time in each world is actually opposite in each world. Both going forward, but opposite to each other
Though they don't exactly what it is they believe that the "Venus Nexus" are travelling back in time to clean up something surrounding the event, without changing event ...
But, they aren't aware of what clues and things they are leaving behind, because in their reality there are no such clues
Possibly the nexus are employed in the other reality, instead of being located
They do not know
They only know that it's impossible to know and better not to know, because every attempt they have made to do things differently has ended very badly and made things disastrously worse
Using knowledge of the past selves to travel back and track down the person ends in a literal disintegration in the time-line, where people are inexplicably and horribly killed as if reality itself is attacking them like a immune system (meaning, NO INTERACTION WITH FORMER SELVES, EVEN INDIRECTLY. VERY VERY BAD). So they get close enough to ask questions
They also tried preventing the events from taking place, but no matter what they did, there was always something countering against them in time, changing their changes, preventing them from doing it. No matter what, the events took place. Which is why they learned to work with the flow of the event instead of against it. Minimise it's affect, without interfering with the result
Example: the pregnant woman would die in prison, killing herself in prison to avoid trial, but not before making the world angry by her lack of remorse, being seen in the news smirking and laughing at the events. So they make sure she dies in the event. Same outcome with her death, but no angry protests in the future. It doesn't change the future, only events that effect it, that run-on into farther reaching future events (such as a person being killed in the protest marches, that leads to a possible future assassination attempt. A corruption. That could have been saved. Which could be prevented. This is what they believe their purpose is
Affecting the change they can make, without interfering and making things worse
There would be a second movie to this set in the Venus Nexus, showing the same events
That directly aligns to the original movie and certain parts that cross over
That movie would show ...
